Jalen Hill was born in Cleveland, Ohio during August of 2000. Independently, Hill began to study drawing in 2012. A step-by-step guide on manga illustration checked out from the school library had been Hill’s introduction to structural creativity. His interest in anime inspired him to check the book out as he viewed the shows like gateways to worlds filled with surreal hyperbole. The emotions he felt through these fictional creations sparked a connection with the character's definitive personas and inspired Hill to draw them. In doing so he aimed to capture physical likeness and visually express the emotions evoked by his subject.
Hill’s creative ambition grew alongside him, he shifted his focus towards more layered narratives and organic subject matter as well. His sense of community that reached beyond manga and anime led him to experiment painting with people and nature as his study. Flourishing, was a new found satisfaction from applying his animated inspiration to the ordinary and romanticizing the world around him. This change aided Hill in realizing his vision, using art to encourage expression within a diversity of audiences.
Jalen Hill finished his senior year at Charles F. Brush High School in 2018 with both art and writing scholarships. From there he would further his education at Cleveland State University, earning his Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design and the Arts. Hill has completed design commissions using the knowledge and skills gained from University.
